December 1, 1988
Early years Katty García was born on December 1, 1988, in Manta, Manabí province, Ecuador. At the age of 7, she participated in a school play, which sparked her interest in acting. As a child, she would recreate scenes from Thalía’s telenovelas, and her mother made her dresses similar to those of the Mexican artist. She excelled in mathematics during her studies, but her true passion was acting. In 2006, when she turned 18, her parents supported her move to Guayaquil so she could study acting. She also once aspired to become a flight attendant and completed all the required admission tests, but two months after the birth of her daughter Rebeca, she decided not to take the final exam so she could focus on caring for her newborn. Career She graduated from the Instituto Superior de Estudios de Televisión (ITV) in 2008 and participated in several theater productions with the Actantes group, while also beginning her television career and fully dedicating herself to acting. One of her first television appearances was in the drama series Historias Personales and, in 2009, she had a recurring extra role in the Ecuavisa telenovela El Exitoso Lcdo. Cardoso, where she played a nurse who attended Gonzalo Martínez, portrayed by Martín Calle. For Teleamazonas, she joined the cast of Aída, La Pareja Feliz 5, Nina, and Vivos, where one of her characters was Sufrida Caliche, a parody of Sofía Caiche. Through La Pareja Feliz and Vivos in 2012, she found her path in comedy alongside David Reinoso and Flor María Palomeque. She has stated that after participating in these comedy shows, she discovered her true vocation in acting: comedy. In 2015, alongside Katiuska Peralta and Tomás Delgado, she joined the radio program Radiación Temprana on Radio Canela, where she impersonated singer Katy Perry. Because Katty did not enjoy playing sensual or provocative female roles, she once auditioned for a television production in Colombia but lost the role due to those characteristics. Later, upon returning to Guayaquil, she accepted the role of Beverly, a provocative woman willing to show her charms to achieve her goals, in the telenovela 3 Familias on Ecuavisa. This role was a major challenge for her, as she was originally cast at the last minute after auditioning alongside Martín Calle. Once selected by the director, she was asked to make the character more “popular,” meaning with a more down-to-earth, local attitude. Beverly’s personality was the complete opposite of Katty’s, and she developed the character with the help of her colleagues Marcos Espín, Martín Calle, Cecilia Cascante, and Miriam Murillo. In 2017, she premiered the micro-theater play Ay Mamá alongside Marián Sabaté, which explores the role of mothers in society, where she played Sabaté’s daughter. She also participated in the theatrical play Hola, soy tu vagina. In April 2019, she presented her first stand-up comedy show, Cien por ciento manaba, at Teatro Café – Pop Up. The show was so successful that performances continued throughout the month. She highlighted the importance of word of mouth and social media in its success, stating that strong performances always attract audiences and increase interest in theater. Thanks to her role in Calle Amores on TC Televisión, she was able to explore different types of characters, showcasing her versatility as an actress. The following year, she obtained her first leading role in the telenovela Antuca Me Enamora, alongside Claudia Camposano, Alejandra Paredes, Ney Calderón, and Carolina Jaume. In 2022, she became a contestant on the dance competition show Soy el Mejor.
